abstract="{An analysis of municipal waste management in Poland and the Czech Republic shows progress. In Poland, the recycling rate of municipal waste increased from 6% in 2004 to 32% in 2014, but it is still far from the targets outlined in the European Union Directives: 55% by 2025, 60% by 2030 and 65% by 2035. In 2014, as much as 53% of this waste went to landfill, while
only 21% was recycled. By contrast, in the Czech Republic, a large proportion of municipal waste was landfilled in 2020, and only 39% of waste was recycled. In order to achieve the EU targets, investments in waste treatment infrastructure, including recycling and composting facilities, are necessary in both Poland and the Czech Republic. The involvement of citizens in segregation
and recycling processes, as well as effective environmental education, is crucial. Both countries need further action to reduce landfill and improve recycling rates, in line with EU requirements.}",
