EN This article aims to identify research directions to which Internet memes can be subjected. The starting point is the assumption that memetic evanescence and domination of ludic will not rule out treatment of memes as specific sources of information. Internet memes are part of the public discussion about socio-political problems, and as such can be considered as an expression of the dominant views and moods, including very often stereotyped patterns of thinking. From the perspective of the linguists the most important seems to be to determine the impact of memes on contemporary lexical and idiomatic resource. On the other hand, the study of intertextual treatments allows drawing conclusions regarding the contemporary relation to tradition, cultural canon and perception of individual cultural texts.
