EN The guarantee of maintaining freedom and freedom of movement in the European Union is ensuring security. "Freedom and security directly depend on the effective fight against border crime." The aim of the article is to analyze and present issues related to cross-border cooperation between Poland and Germany in the protection of the common section of the border. Indicating the specificity of the internal EU border, which is the section between Poland and Germany, and the evolution of cooperation towards the development of an effective model of cooperation for border security.Free movement and border crossing within the "area without borders" needs intensified controls at the external borders and invisible surveillance at internal borders. The authorities responsible for cross-border security in Poland and Germany are entities that cooperate in order to identify and counteract migration threats. Defining the pattern of cooperation between services providing border protection is a complicated activity due to the diversity of border areas. This is due to the diversity and specificity of neighboring countries, their culture and history. According to the researchers of the subject, it is difficult to categorically decide whether it is possible to create and apply one universal model for all EU borderlands, therefore the more exploration of the issues leading to the development of practical guidelines for the model of effective management of a specific internal border is of practical value
