EN Objective: this paper compares the Vickers and Knoop microhardness testing methods in the context of dentistry. Both methods are often used to study the effect of various factors on the hardness of tooth tissues and to verify the parameters of new dental filling materials. Material and methods: in this article, we compared the methodology and applicability of these tests, as well as the results obtained for enamel and dentin. Results: results with Vickers method were on average 20% higher. Conclusions: both methods gave reproducible results, with a small standard deviation. Paper concerns difficulties related to sample preparation and challenges associated with microhardness testing of tooth tissues.
