EN The article consists of two main parts: the minutes from the party meeting of 16 October 1948, at which important party officials and activists from Gorzów Wielkopolski were removed from the Polish Workers ' Party (Polska Partia Robotnicza, PPR), and an extensive introduction in which the causes and consequences ofthese removals are discussed. The stage of party purges represented a political tum that took place in the second half of 1948 and the acce leration of the construction of a communist state based on the Soviet model. At that time, peo-ple who were considered inconvenient or who could not accept the implemented political changes were removed. The most important person removed from the Polish Workers' Party in Gorzów Wielkopolski at that time was Florian Kroenke, the founder of the Polish administration, and also manager of the Gorzów Branch of the Poznań Provincial Office, with the position of Deputy Province Governor. Th is process could also have had negative conse-quences for Gorzów Wielkopolski in the competition for su premacy and capital status of the region which was being formed in the Lubusz region (the western part of the Poznai'l prov-ince). Ultimate ly, it lost th is competition to Zielona Góra, which in 1950 became the capital of the province in western Poland.
