Abstract

EN The paper is concerned with film talk and its interpretation within the frameworks of linguistic pragmatics. The author refers to influential publications regarding film discourse for terminological clarity and briefly describes the principle of a fictional work’s contextual embeddedness. Drawing on the notion of activity types and characteristics of legal discourse, the core aspects of interrogation (interview, questioning) are presented as a contextualizing schema for the linguistic data. The selected genre is a police procedural drama, and the characters’ utterances are analyzed in terms of such pragmatic parameters as (im)politeness, conversational structure, implicature, or power.
