Abstract

PL The article presents an outline of cardinal Wyszynski’s approach towards history of Poland as an instrument of national and catholic pedagogy. This aspect of the Primate’s teaching was in a sharp contrast to the Communist regime’s endeavours to use school curriculum as a means to indoctrinate the Polish youth. While pointing to Poland’s permanennt cultural links with the Western (Latin) civilisation since 966, cardinal Wyszynski was at odds with these communist efforts. In the same light one is entitled to interpret his affirmation of the Polish national uprisings, including the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. Cardinal Wyszynski also drew attention of the laity to biographies and deeds of the outstanding Polish bishops, kings and poets who contributed to cultural identity of the Polish nation viewed by the Primate as „baptized nation“.
